Socialist Economist's New Year's Pledges (and Call out for Writers & Artists)

✑ SOCIALIST ECONOMIST
Perhaps your economic analysis is too leftist for The Economist and too economic for some leftist magazines or websites. Then, in 2018, SE is the right platform for you.
Since Socialist Economist was founded in October, fifteen in-depth articles were published on this website. Some focussed on history or current events, some on theory or ideology, but all dealt with economics and seemed relevant for the (international) Left.

You may have noticed that all of the articles were previously published elsewhere - on other websites, blogs or as parts of books. This formula seems to work for now as many authors seem willing to share their content with SE and allow us to republish their work on our website.

So in 2018, SE will continue to search for, review and publish interesting texts which deal with economics and are interesting from a leftist perspective. SE will continue (as explained in our about-page) "to provide a platform to a rich diversity of perspectives and opinions, from an equally rich diversity of authors." To provide a platform to male, female, Western, non-Western, young, old, academics and non-academics.

As long as texts deal with economic questions that seem relevant for the Left, are written in straightforward language, understandable to a broad audience and present interesting arguments and analyses, SE has an interest in (re)publishing them.

Socialist Economist might do even more in 2018 than it did in 2017 by:

  1. publishing original content
  2. publishing more content.

1. Publishing original content - A call out for writers & artists

Who, in 2017, would want to spend time and effort to write for Socialist Economist, a totally new and completely unknown platform? But who knows....publishing on SE might become a respectable thing in 2018. In fact, it already is as SE's posts have been read by thousands from all over the world, some of them shared enthusiastically through social media.

Who knows, some of you reading this might want to publish your own writings on SE in 2018. Perhaps your economic analysis is too leftist for The Economist and too economic for some leftist magazines or websites. Then SE is the right platform for you. If your text relates to SE's goals there's a great chance it will be published here. Send your article(s) in 2018 to join@socialisteconomist.com.

Who knows, some of you might be willing to donate other types of content; graphics to decorate our articles (like Eleanor Marx's article), cartoons on economics, a 2D animated film on socialist economics (just thinking out loud), your own interview with a great thinker, or other types of content only you might think of. If your idea relates to SE's goals there's a great chance it will be published here. Send your (ideas for) content in 2018 to join@socialisteconomist.com.

2. Publishing more content

SE has been publishing only one article (though sometimes more) a week, on Fridays. SE intends to continue publishing only on Fridays, but there's enough space on the server to publish more content on Fridays (say two or three articles, or even more), which might happen if...

(a) Readers would start sending SE many suggestions for future publications. Just sending a link to a great article from a blog, part of a book, or other source and shortly explaining why this text should be published on SE would be enough (again, to join@socialisteconomist.com). SE would contact the original author and ask for permission to republish the text.

(b) Writers would start to provide SE with original content. (See part 1).

Wishing you all a happy, healthy and socialist 2018,

Socialist Economist
